Resume: Beth Emhoff (Gwenyth Paltrow) returns from a business trip to Hong Kong with a stop over at the Chicago airport, where she has sex with her former lover. Beth feels ill, but thinks the problem is jet leg. She travels back home to Minneapolis and spreads the virus to her son Clark and her husband, Mitch. When Beth and Clark die, Mitch goes in quarantine where the doctors realise he is immune to the mysterious virus. Meanwhile in Hong Kong, London and in a small province, cases of the mystery illness are cropping up, as the American CDC and the World Health Organization give their best effort researching the virus. First off, I'll admit I've never been a fan of the Unseen Enemy. I particularly don't care for the scary virus or disease that's killing people off like flies. As far as I'm concerned, we've already had way too many of these and certainly don't need another. Aside from that, this particular film is downright drudgery which the producers try to enliven with spurts of loud hard-driving music designed to imply that something really BIG is coming. But it never does. We just go from one victim or group of victims to another while waiting for the CURE that will save the world in the nick of time. Not a thriller in any sense of the word and there's no suspense at all despite the pounding score. I feel that all these actors deserved better and they should have held out for it. Elliot Gould was completely wasted in his short role. the others were wasted in their longer roles. A very sad waste of time and money.
